In Colline Metallifere area there are 3 main statal roads linked to each other by a thick woof of secondary, provincial, municipal roads.
Sarzanese-Valdera (ss 439) road links Volterra to Follonica and serves all Massa Marittima area. Senese-Aretina (SS 73) road goes from the province of Siena to the Grosseto one near Torniella village and arrives untill Aurelia (ss 1) road through Roccastrada. Massetana (ss 441) road, which is flanked with luxuriant vegetation and with Merse river, links the two above mentioned roads: crossing Colline Metallifere area from Boccheggiano to Prata ends in Massa Marittima.
Who comes from statal road 73 must reach Roccastrada, turn towards Sassofortino and for 9 Km run along a beautiful panoramic road, even if more modest and winding, which runs at the foot of mount Sassoforte.
Who comes from Massetana road has to leave it near Gabellino, and reach the crossroads of Meleta, turn towards Sassofortino, which is about 3 Km far.
Coming from the North, on Aurelia road, you can go out at Gavorrano Scalo, go toward Ribolla, follow the directions to Montemassi and Sassofortino.
Coming from the South, on Aurelia, go out at Braccagni and towards Montemassi and Sassofortino. If you have time, we suggest you to follow the beautiful road that goes to Sticciano Scalo, flanked with rows of pines, and stop Roccastrada, before reaching Sassofortino.
